AWH signs definitive agreement to acquire dispensary near Midway Airport following regulatory approval

CHICAGO – (Dec. 15, 2020) – Ascend Wellness Holdings, LLC (“AWH”), a multi-state cannabis operator, announced the execution of an agreement to acquire Chicago Alternative Health Center, LLC and an affiliated entity, which operates the Midway Dispensary, an adult-use and medical cannabis dispensary, located at 5648 S. Archer Avenue (“Midway Dispensary”).

Pending transaction approval by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, AWH will own Midway Dispensary, including Midway Dispensary’s right to open a secondary site adult-use dispensary under Illinois’ adult-use cannabis program, which, once approved, would be AWH’s eighth Illinois retail location assuming completion of pending transactions.

“We are excited to continue to expand in Chicago and fortunate to be able to partner with one of the original operators in the state that serves the southwest Chicago market. I want to thank Midway Dispensary’s current owners, Kraig Koester, Neal McQueeney and rest of team, for all their hard work,” said AWH Founder and Chief Executive Officer Abner Kurtin.

Midway Dispensary first opened under Illinois’ medical cannabis program in 2016 and has since expanded its menu to adult-use. Its location is in an ideal location in the southwest Chicago area.

“It’s been a challenging and exciting journey to get where we are. A company with the experience of AWH will be able to take the Midway Dispensary to the next level and expand access to thousands of people here in Chicago,” said Kraig Koester.
